Curriculum
Our Curriculum has been designed by us, with our children’s interests and needs at is center. It is established on building long-term knowledge, influenced by Rosenshine’s Principles and Cognitive Load theory. At the heart of our Curriculum, is our aim to ensure that children remember what we have taught them through enriching experiences and a well-sequenced progression of knowledge in order to develop strong schema for retrieval and application. The curriculum has been mapped to secure ensure clear connections across subjects in order for children to have a deeper understanding of what they are taught.
The use of quality texts in English, which are closely mapped to foundation subjects, help to embed key knowledge. The teaching of vocabulary empowers our children to articulate their thoughts, interpret the world around them and have a voice.
Our curriculum drivers – diversity, communication, environment and possibilities – underpin everything we teach; to ensure that our children have an understanding of the world around them and a responsibility to care for creation. British Values; democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for those with differing or no faith, are taught through topics and during RSHE sessions. We have an effective school council, and Pupil Parliament, to ensure that pupils have ownership over school decisions.
We strive to ensure that every pupil at St Alban’s leaves with lifelong memories and enriching experiences, underpinned by the teachings of Jesus. Woven through our curriculum is the importance on of the emotional well-being of all of our children and staff through a strong focus on PSHE, emotional literacy and mental health.
