Prayer and Liturgy at St Alban’s
At St Alban’s, Prayer and Liturgy are at the heart of who we are and inform every aspect of school life. Rooted in our mission “Learning, Loving and Living together, side by side with God,” we strive to be a welcoming, reflective and faith-filled community where all are invited to encounter God.
Prayer is not simply a routine at St Alban’s; it is a shared experience that nurtures relationships, shapes values and supports spiritual wellbeing. We warmly welcome parents, carers, parishioners and visitors to join us whenever possible, recognising that prayer is strongest when it brings people together.
A Rhythm of Prayer
Prayer is woven purposefully into the rhythm of each day, gently framing school life with opportunities for reflection and togetherness. Daily prayer takes place at key moments, including the start and end of the day and before and after meals, helping create a calm and purposeful atmosphere.
Prayer takes many forms, including traditional and spontaneous prayer, music, silence, Scripture and reflection. Prayer spaces across the school, along with outdoor prayer opportunities, further support a sense of peace and welcome, allowing everyone to engage in ways that feel meaningful and respectful.
Celebration of the Word and Mass
We gather regularly as a school community to celebrate the Word of God. Weekly Celebrations of the Word follow a clear and accessible structure and are thoughtfully prepared using Scripture, symbol, music and reflection. These shared acts of worship encourage participation and provide time for stillness and spiritual growth.
Mass is celebrated regularly, both in school and in our local parish church. We are proud of our close links with the parish and value these opportunities to worship together as a wider faith community. Participation in Mass helps deepen understanding of Catholic worship and strengthens the sense of belonging within the Church.
Living the Liturgical Year
Prayer and liturgy at St Alban’s are closely aligned with the Church’s Liturgical year. Each season is marked with intention through prayer spaces, worship, music, Scripture and symbols.
Advent – a time of waiting and hope
Christmas – celebrating the joy of Christ’s birth
Lent – reflection, forgiveness and preparation
Easter – celebrating new life and resurrection
Pentecost and Ordinary Time – growing in faith and living out the Gospel
These shared experiences help the community journey together through the year and make clear links between faith and everyday life.
Shared and Inclusive Worship
Prayer and liturgy at St Alban’s are inclusive and welcoming to all. Careful planning ensures that worship is accessible to everyone, regardless of background, ability or stage of faith. A wide range of approaches — including visual resources, sensory elements, music, movement and moments of silence — supports meaningful participation and ensures a strong sense of belonging.
Our approach reflects the belief that prayer is about presence, openness and community.
Parish, Parents and Community
Prayer and Liturgy extend beyond the classroom and reflect our strong partnership with families and the parish. Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us for key liturgical celebrations throughout the year. These shared moments strengthen our community and help faith to be seen, celebrated and lived together.
Growing Together in Faith
Through Prayer and Liturgy, St Alban’s nurtures a community grounded in faith, hope and compassion. By offering welcoming, inclusive and well-planned opportunities for worship, we support spiritual growth and invite all who enter our school to walk together, side by side with God.
