Our Approach to Behaviour

At St Alban’s, we are committed to fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment where every pupil can learn, love, and live side by side with God. Our approach to behaviour is rooted in our Catholic values, encouraging our pupils to develop strong character and take responsibility for their actions while feeling supported and nurtured.

Our Behaviour Policy, aligned with the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust (SRSCMAT) framework, sets out clear expectations to ensure a calm, safe, and purposeful learning environment. It is built on the teachings of Jesus Christ and promotes:

  • High expectations for behaviour across all areas of school life
  • A culture of celebration, where positive behaviour is recognised and rewarded
  • Restorative approaches, allowing pupils to reflect on their actions and learn from them
  • Consistent and fair responses to behaviour concerns, ensuring all pupils are treated with dignity and respect

Character Behaviours and School Rules

At St Alban’s, we believe that good behaviour is a choice. Our Character Behaviours help pupils develop the right attitudes and skills to be successful in school and beyond. These behaviours include:
Self-awareness
Teamwork
Aspiration
Loving
Bravery
Appreciation
Non-judgemental
Service

Our School Rules are simple and based on our core values:

  • Learning – Always try your best
  • Loving – Show respect
  • Living – Take care of one another and our belongings

Managing Behaviour and Restorative Practices

When behaviour falls below expectations, we take a graduated response, focusing on restoration rather than punishment. Our approach includes:

  • Gentle reminders and prompts to encourage self-correction
  • Reflection and Reset – A structured approach to help pupils refocus
  • Restorative conversations to help pupils understand the impact of their actions
  • Support and interventions for pupils who need additional guidance

For serious incidents, we follow the Trust-wide Suspension and Exclusion Policy, ensuring decisions are fair, proportionate, and in the best interest of the school community.

Preventing Bullying

Bullying of any kind is not tolerated at St Alban’s. Our Anti-Bullying Policy, included within our Behaviour Policy, outlines how we identify, prevent, and address bullying. We also have a dedicated team of Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, trained by the Diana Trust, who help promote a safe and inclusive environment.

Working Together

Behaviour is a partnership between school, pupils, and parents. We encourage families to support our approach by:
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Reinforcing our school values at home
📢 Engaging with Class Dojo updates on behaviour and rewards
📞 Communicating with teachers about any concerns

By working together, we can ensure that every child at St Alban’s flourishes academically, socially, and spiritually.
